Glasgow merchant, partner with Hugh Halket, Alexander MacDonald and Matthew McAlister in Glasgow and Demerara ostensibly until 1808, co-owner of the Aurora and Maria's Lodge estates. Prior to 1808, Roderick MacDonald and Matthew McAlister had also been in partnership with John M'Donald and Alexander MacDonald under the firm of Roderick MacDonald & co. in Glasgow and as John M'Donald & Co. in Nassau New Providence, with the partnership dissolved by virtue of the death of two of the partners and the mutual consent of the rest 31/12/1808.
London Gazette 17032 01/07/1815 p. 1289, in a notice headed 'Glasgow March 22 1809' but published in 1815, the partnerships between M. McAlister, Roderick McDonald, Alexander McDonald and Henry Halket, trading in Glasgow as Roderick McDonald & Co. and in Demerary as McDonald Halket & Co. were dissolved by mutual consent on 31st December last [i.e. apparently 1808], with Roderick McDonald and Matthew McAlister settling the debts by and due to the firm in Glasgow and Henry Halket and Alexander McDonald doing the same in Demerary; London Gazette 16636 18/08/1812 p. 1683.
