Biography

Resident slave-owner on St Vincent, owner of the Union estate and one-quarter of the Spring estate. Although his will was proved in 1817, he might have died several years earlier.

  1. Will of William Rose gentleman of Bequia proved 23/05/1817. Under the will he gave to Mary Lerand [?] for 26 years service his household goods and his half share of a house in St Augustatius [sic] known as Rose and Arrindell's Stove 'and also the following negroes Falana [?], Sally and Charlotte and the following eight negroes attached to the Union estate until Mary Lerand calls for them, Sophy, Sukey, Kitty, Edwards, Patience, Fanir [?], Charlotte and mulatto Joe' and their increase and issue. He gave the estate called Union with 'negroes stock buildings' etc. to William Rose, James Rose and their sister [none of the three was further identified.] He gave his one quarter of the Spring estate to Jacob Rose Tait, William Rose Scott, Thomas Scott and Walter Scott: 'I also leave Thomas Scott the father of the three sons to be their guardian.' He left Ann Ell Tait his lot of land on the island of St Martins. William Rose was appointed executor with William Henderson.
