Biography

Charles Mitchell named in Accounts Produce as owner of Camp Savanna and Mountain Spring (Westmoreland, Jamaica), 1762-1765. In 1767 he is listed as deceased but death had occurred in or before 1762, as John Kinlock (q.v.) is listed as Executor from 1762 onwards. His widow Ann appears to have remarried, to Dr Gilbert Mathison (q.v.).

  1. Charles Mitchell of Kingston, merchant. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1762. Slave-ownership at probate: 306 of whom 191 were listed as male and 115 as female. 70 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £96146.33 Jamaican currency of which £15670 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £68940.92 currency debts and £381.43 currency plate.
