1771 - 1800
Enslaved person living and working on Unity Valley Pen (Portland), Jamaica. Manumitted in 1795 by David Barclay (q.v.) and removed to Philadelphia, with 29 other freed persons from the estate, where placed under the care of Society for Improving the Condition of Free Blacks.
Nanny was 24 at the time of her manumission. Upon arriving in Philadelphia she was indentured for 2 years 'found in clothes' and given '$26.66 freedom dues' to be paid by her master. In his 1801 account Barclay recorded Nanny as 'deceased - but gave great satisfaction her employers when living'.
