1790 - 1876
Probably the son of John Allen and Ann Olton; baptised St Philip, Barbados, 13 November 1790 and also probably the John A. Olton, born in Barbados, who was recorded as living with Mary A. Olton and Elizabeth Walkinshaw, 16, a servant, in New Fish Street, St Margaret, London in the 1851 census. He is described as being a Solicitor’s Writing Clerk. His wife was born in Limehouse, London. John Olton’s age is given as being c.60. He had married Mary Ann Siburn at Saint George The Martyr, Southwark, Surrey, 31 August 1828. His financial decline appears to have been precipitous, he having sold Barbados property (albeit encumbered) for almost £75,000 in the 1810s but he being imprisoned for debt in Marshalsea in 1833. The death of John Allen Olton was registered in London City Q3 1876.
