James Peterkin of Grange (in Kinloss, Scotland) and Chatham (in St James, Jamaica). It's unclear how he came into the possession of Chatham estate, which was managed in Jamaica by his eldest brother Alexander (d. 1817). Married to Ann Grant. Seven children baptised to James Peterkin and Ann Gordon in Kinloss, Moray: Alexander Robert (1805), John Gordon and Elizabeth (both 22/01/1807), Mary Ann (1808), Jean Gordon (1810), James (1811), Charles James (1812).
Chatham was inherited by second son John Gordon Peterkin who died in 1832. It then passed to the eldest surviving daughter, Mary Ann Peterkin.
A James Peterkin was Lieut. in the St James Militia and an assistant judge in St James in 1796.

James Peterkin Esquire of Grange being resolved to settle my affairs by executing the disposition and deed of trust after mentioned. O convey to Mrs Ann Peterkin alisa Gordon my beloved wife; Alexr Peterkin Esquire the Island of Jamaica my eldest brother; John Gordon Esquire at Edinburgh; Charles Gordon Esquire of London Doctor; John Gordon physician in Edinburgh; Thomas Gordon Esquire of the HEIC; Rev. Lewis Gordon minister Kinnadar; James Roy Esquire, Garrison surgeon Fort George; George Thomas Gordon Esquire of Whitburn, writer to the signet; Ralph Montague junior Esquire, merchant in Bristol. All as trustees for the lands, plantations, shares of ships, etc of all my personal and real estate, including land in Forres and Elgin and my estate called Chatham and my pen called Bull pen, both in St James, Jamaica. From this trust to pay: Annuity of £300 sterling provided to Ann Peterkin in our marriage settlement dated 09/01/1805. Also to stay rent-free in our house and a further annuity of £100. To each of our sons £4,000. To each of our daughters £2,500 at age 21 or marriage (for daughters, if before the age of 21). Trustees authorised if necessary to mortgage Scottish or Jamaican property. Remainder for my eldest son Alexander Robert Peterkin, in default to John Gordon Peterkin my second son, in default to any other of my sons with Ann Peterkin in order of seniority and their heirs. In default to Elizabeth Peterkin my eldest daughter and her heirs; in default to Mary Ann Peterkin my second daughter and her heirs, then to Jane Gordon Peterkin my third daughter and her heirs, of which any husband is obliged to take the surname Peterkin of Grange. While he resides in Jamaica, my brother Alexander Peterkin shall have the sole management of my estate and affairs there. Signed 15/01/1812. Codicil.
