Owner or joint owner of Dumfries estate in St James, Jamaica. Hon. John Mowatt was a director of the Close Harbour Company in 1799, an Assistant Judge in St James in 1790 and 1796 and Custos and Chief Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in St James in 1807. Deceased by 1811.
Assumed to also be the John Mowat, merchant, who shipped sugar and rum on account of William Miles in Jamaica in 1788.
