James Farrel Phipps

Biography

  1. Born in St. Kitts, the first son of Constantine Phipps of St. Kitts, a member of council, and Mary, daughter of James Farrel of Montserrat. Married Mary Coghlan 7 February 1771. They had 1 daughter who married Sir Patrick Blake in 1789. MP for Peterborough 1780-1786. His brother was also called Constantine Phipps.

  2. Will of James Phipps of Peterborough proved 15/09/1786. The will is simple, leaving everything to his daughter Mary or Maria Charlotte subject to monetary legacies of £1000 each to his brother Constantine and his brother in-law Arthur Onslow DD, and annuities of £100 p.a. to his two cousins. He makes no mention of the West India property and enslaved people he inherited from his father. Mary or Maria Charlotte Phipps married Sir Patrick Blake bart. (q.v.)
