Sarah Campbell

1809 - ????

Biography

Daughter of Elizabeth Malcolm Campbell, a "free mulatto" and Archibald Campbell, owner of Askinish estate in Hanover, Jamaica. Baptised with her brother Alexander Campbell in Hanover, 30/09/1809. The four unmarried daughters of Archibald Campbell with their mother inherited a one third share of Askinish on the death of Archibald in 1830. If Sarah had lived she would have presumably been one of these four. The census of Hanover for Ashkinish estate in 1823 gives Archibald Campbell, age 71, white, Trafford Campbell, age 32, white, and Elizabeth M. Campbell, age 50, 'mulatto', with four 'quadroon' women: Lily age 23, Ann age 21, Jane age 19 and Margaret age 13 and a young 'quadroon' man Alexander age 18. It is likely Sarah had died by this point.
