Owner of Palmetto Grove estate in St Mary, Jamaica, which he bought c. 1819. Shown as alive c. 1826 but deceased by 1828. A death notice in Blackwood's from December 1825 shows the death at Up-Park Jamaica of a James Deans Lieutenant and Adjutant, of the 92nd Regiment, who was possibly the same man or related, and who was the son of William Deans and at University of Glasgow 1809-1812.
