Year of birth approximate. 1st son of Thomas Shatterden (afterwards Drax), of Pope’s Common, Hertfordshire and Barbados and Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Ernle of Etchilhampton, Wiltshire. Married, 1720, his 1st cousin Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Sir Edward Ernle, 3rd Bt., MP and grand-daughter and heir of Thomas Erle, MP, of Charborough. They had 5 daughters and 3 sons.
MP for Wareham and Lyme Regis. Henry Drax's father inherited Ellerton Abbey from his uncle, a Barbados slave-owner.
