Biography

Alexander and Mary Ann Young of Bloomfield had two children baptised in Manchester, Jamaica: Alexander (born 1825 but baptised 1829) and Henry McConnell (born and baptised in 1829). Mary Ann Young later owned Bloomfield in trust, with Alexander Young as guardian to his sons for 5 enslaved people upon the estate. Mary Ann or Marianne Young was the same person as Mary Ann Reed, previously executrix to [and widow of] Hugh Reed on Bloomfield.

  1. Alexander Young 'Warder Penal Department', parents Alexander Young and Mary Young formerly McConnell, died aged 79 in 1909 in South Melbourne, Australia. He had been at school in England in 1841, with his brother Henry McConnell Young (q.v.), at Aspley Guise in Bedfordshire.
