Brother of Edward Carleton Cumberbatch, Abraham Cumberbatch and Lawrence Trent Cumberbatch (each of whom q.v.). Son of Abraham Carleton, who inherited Cleland and The Farm plantations in Barbados under the will of his grandfather Abraham Cumberbatch and changed his surname to Cumberbatch. Mother was Elizabeth nee Trent. 'Part owner of Nicholas and Ebworth plantations....He died a bachelor in Liverpool 19/11/1822.' Bequeathed the bulk of his property to his brother Lawrence Trent Cumberbatch.
