Biography

Son and main heir of James Knight (q.v.).

  1. Will of John Knight of Kingston Jamaica proved 13/02/1754. The probate showed him at Philadelphia at the time of his death. He left £300 currency and an annuity of £100 p.a. to Susannah Cherry 'who now lives with me' , £300 currency to his executor James Barclay, and £300 currency and £100 currency to the 'poor housekeepers' of Kingston and Port Royal respectively, and £100 currency to buy a branch [sic] for Kingston Church. He left the debts due to him from John Lewis of Westmoreland to Lewis's son, also John. He left the rest of his estate to his sisters Sarah Williams widow of John Williams late of Jamaica and now of Westminster and Ann Knight of Westminster.

  2. The estate of John Knight was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 155 acres of land in St Andrew.
