Biography

Former merchant of Glasgow, but dying in Jamaica; mortgagee-In-possession of the Manningsfield estate in Vere Jamaica at least 1785-1789. Partner in Anderson, Coats and Whytlaw of Glasgow and of Thomson & Whytlaw in Jamaica.

  1. Thomas Whytlaw contributed £4 15s to the University of Pennsylvania following Dr John Morgan's fundraising tour of the West Indies in 1772-1773.

  2. Oct. 15 [1805] In Jamaica [death of] Thomas Whytlaw, late merchant in Glasgow. [This is inferred by LBS to be the Thomas Whytelaw or Whytlaw shown as mortgagee-in-possession of Manningsfield].
