GALE, Col. HENRY M.A. St. Elizabeth 1760, '65, '66. Custos St. Elizabeth. Died 1767. Aged 30 years. Was interred in the Black River Church. His great grand father was Jonathan Gale. His grand father was Jonathan, Custos of St. Elizabeth, and his father was the 3rd Jonathan. In 1747 a private act was passed for vesting certain lands in St. Elizabeth, Vere, and St. Andrew belonging to Jonathan Gale late of St. Elizabeth. Esq., deceased, in Trustees (Woodstock Manning and Sargeant) for sale for preservation of the most profitable part of the Estate of J. G. for the benefit of his only son and heir Henry Gale.
Henry Gale, a minor, was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 75 acres of land in St Andrew, 1125 acres in Westmoreland, 8477 acres in St Andrew and 388 acres in Vere, total 10065 acres.
Henry Gale of St Elizabeth, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1767. Slave-ownership at probate: 655 of whom 324 were listed as male and 331 as female. 171 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £60807.04 Jamaican currency of which £41044.84 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £8751.17 currency debts and £30 currency plate.
