Slave-owner of St Kitts, shown as dead by 1828. To date he has not been identified satisfactorily. The Col. Pownall Phipps who was the son-in-law of Benedict Arnold, grandson of Constantine Phipps senior and son of Constantine Phipps jun. (who had inherited the St Thomas property under the will of his father) did not die until 1858. He had a son Pownoll or Pownall James Phipps who died as an infant c. 1823. No other possible candidate appears in the biography of Col. Pownoll Phipps.
