Demerara slave-owner, owner of Caledonian & Dortrecht in 1817 and of Bremen at the time of its judicial sale in 1821-1822. This was almost certainly Nathaniel [also given as Nathan] Hazelwood late of Demerara whose widow Maria Johanna was left an annuity of £300 p.a. without explanation by Robert Westley Hall (q.v.): she was his step-daughter. His name variously appears as Hazelwood, Hazlewood, Haslewood and Haselwood. Genealogical material shows him as MD, dying at Bath in 1822: LBS has not confirmed this.
