Francis Smyth

  1. In 1751 Francis Smith (sic) obtained a grant of 300 acres in Nassau, St.Elizabeth, Jamaica; this property became the estate of Vauxhall. Either he or his son was Francis Smyth, one of the churchwardens of St.Elizabeth, in whom (with others) land at Black River was vested in 1760 as part of a scheme to provide for "negroes belonging to the parsonage" of St.Elizabeth. He died in the same year.

Slave-ownership at probate: 144 of whom 81 were listed as male and 63 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £11,333.68 Jamaican currency of which £7,378.53 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £215.50 currency cash, £347.58 currency debts and £47.63 currency plate.
