Peter Francklyn

1732 - 1799

Early purchaser with his brother Gilbert Francklyn of land in Tobago, and later collector of customs at Kingston, marrying in 1794 'Mrs Elizabeth Harding' of Weston Favell in Jamaica. LBS is still disentangling the family relationships, but Mrs Catherine Francklyn (q.v.) refers in her own will to a marriage settlement securing £10,000 currency on the Weston Favel[l] estate [and the enslaved people attached to it], which mirrors the settlement referred to in Peter Franckyn's will, suggesting that Mrs Catherine Francklyn might in fact have been the same woman as 'Mrs Elizabeth Harding.'

  1. Will of Peter Francklyn of Kingston Jamaica [made in 1795] proved 28/04/1800. He left an annuity of £200 p.a. to his sister Susanna Franckiyn of Great Britain. He left his residuary estate to the children of his brother Gilbert Francklyn (q.v.). He said that under his marriage settlement he was entitled to £10,000 currency on his wife's death.

  2. Born May 1732, died December 1799.

The report of the marriage of Peter Francklyn and 'Mrs Elizabeth Harding' appears in several sources, e.g. Royal Gazette September 13th 1794.
