Biography
Widow of Hon. James Bruce (q.v.).
- Will of Keturah Bruce widow [of Hatton Garden] St Andrew proved 03/02/1775. In the will she left out of the £5000 currency that her son Alexander Bruce had left to her (later also described as a judgement) £500 each to her grandsons James Conrade Bruce and Berwick Bruce, the sons of her son Joseph Osborne Bruce, and £200 to another grandson Samuel Laroque Bruce. She also left 'my negro woman named Chloe and her issue' to James Conrade Bruce. She left to her grand-daughter Keturah Shepherd Bruce all her debt and claim on the estate and 'negroes' of Sarah Cogan and five named enslaved people of her [the testatrix's] own. She left £4000 of the £5000 to her daughter Elizabeth Straker, who was her residuary heir. The will identified her brother as John French or Ffrench.
