John Taylor of Grenada

???? - 1764

Biography

Slave-owner and early investor in Grenada, where according to his will [made in 1764 and proved 04/03/1768] he owned the moiety of land and enslaved people on Carriacou. He left an annuity of £20 p.a. to his half-brother James, £20 p.a. to his mother Agnes Taylor of Dalton in Furness, and his residuary estate to the children of his half-sister Margaret Barker and full sister Jane. He gave his trustee John Tarleton the option to purchase his half of the Carriacou estate and enslaved people, and left him £500. It is not yet clear whether this Carriacou property was the same as the Mount Pleasant estate which John Tarleton owned by 1773.
