Liverpool merchant, and slave-owner and mortgagee on St Lucia, with one slaving voyage from Liverpool (to French Guiana) as co-investor with Thomas Rigby (q.v.) in 1805. His will was proved in Chester Feb. 1821, and has not yet been read by LBS. His son John Hammill was a magistrate in London with an obituary in the Annual Register for 1860. His widow Hannah Hammill appears as claimant and awardee of compensation in the 1830s.
