John Purcell Lt-Governor of Tortola

???? - 1771

Biography

Will of John Purcell Lt-Governor of Tortola proved 26/04/1771. In the will he left £7000 and an annuity of £300 p.a. together with ten enslaved named people to each of his daughters Frances and Margaret, and £6000 as portions to his younger children, with the remainder of his estate (including unspecified estates on Tortola) passing to his son John under entail. His executors were John Boyd of Danson House and Michael Macnamara of Great George Street. From later records it has been inferred that Norton's Valley was one of Purcell's estates.
