In his will, proved 23/11/1799, George Leonard rehearsed that as the surviving husband of his first wife Frances Leonard who died at Peckham in Surrey 07/11/1789, and who was the only surviving child of Bezaleel Hodge who had died 15/08/1787, he had been advised that he was entitled to 1/8th of the produce of Bezaleel Hodge's estate until 1804, to an estate known as Simia [?] Farm on Tortola and to 1/3rd of all Hodge's slaves and chattels. He left 1/2 his share of the arrears on the Hermitage estate on Antigua rented to Rev. James Coull to his sister Ruth widow of William Atkinson of Dominica, and 1/4 each to George Martin and Samuel Martin, the sons of his worthy kinsman Hon. Henry Martin 'of this island' [later identified - oddly - as his brothers] together with the £5000 left to his wife by her father and allegedly misappropriated by Bezaleel Hodge's executors.
Will of George Leonard Judge of HM Court of Admiralty, Tortola, PROB 11/1333/124.
