Augustus Frederick Ellis

17th Sep 1800 - 1841

Biography

Soldier and politician. He was the second son of Charles Rose Ellis, Lord Seaford (q.v.) and his first wife, Elizabeth Catherine Caroline, daughter of John Augustus Hervey, Lord Hervey. His elder brother was Charles Augustus, 6th Baron Howard de Walden.

MP for Seaford (1826-27 and 1827-31), standing in 1826 'on the interest of his father'. He was 'a reluctant and ineffectual parliamentarian'. Judd lists him as a 'West Indian' MP though he appears to have done little actively as part of the interest.

He married (1828) Mary Frances Thurlow, daughter of Sir David Cunynghame, 5th bt., of Milncraig and Livingstone, Ayr. There were 3 daughters and 2 sons.

He died in Jamaica, where he was commanding the second battalion of his regiment.
