1756 - 1824
MP for Mitchell and then Dysart Burghs between 1802 and 1806. He and his family were beneficiaries under the will of William Gemmell (q.v.), his wife's uncle, from whom as one of four residuary heirs he inherited £12,000 in trust as well as one-quarter of an unnamed estate on Grenada that the compensation records strongly suggest was Mount Craven.

The entry gives his wife Justina as the daughter of Henry Davidson of Tulloch and Bedford Square, but in fact she was the daughter of Duncan Davidson senior (q.v.) and sister of Henry Davidson the elder of Tulloch.
