"A free black woman" named Caroline, owner of two enslaved people - Innes age 19 and Beneba age 22 - in Westmoreland in 1817. The 1817 slave register was signed by William Fleming, who registered the two enslaved people as his own property in 1820: "A free Black Woman named Caroline had him for her life, she Died."
