Gilbert Ford or Foord

Attorney-General of Jamaica.

1. Death "At Snow Hill plantation, in Liguanea, Jamaica, Gilbert Ford, Esq; his Majesty's attorney-general, in that island."

2. Will of Gilbert Ford of St Catherine Jamaica proved 12/07/1768. He left the estate of which he was mortgagee-in-possession, which he described as Mount Sion in St John formerly the estate and property of Thomas Ayscough, and the amounts owed to him by Thomas Ayscough and from the latter's daughter Grace Harrison Aynscough 'to whom I was guardian', to his brother James Ford doctor of physic of Albemarle Street. [James Ford later appeared as mortgagee-in-possession of an estate called Mountain River in St Catherine that had belonged to Grace Harrison Ayscough as a minor, and that appears to be the estate cited by Gilbert Ford].

3. Gilbert Ford of St Catherine, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1768. Slave-ownership at probate: 309 of whom 161 were listed as male and 148 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £33965.66 Jamaican currency of which £13255.22 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £15741.84 currency debts and £691.93 currency plate.
