George Gostling

Biography

Co-heir of Richard Lytcott Hicks Esq. (q.v.). The will of George Gostling himself appears not to refer to slave-property or to a legacy from Hicks, and ordinarily it would be assumed that Gostling was a trustee under Hicks' will, but Hicks' will is explicit that Gostling was an heir. It appears that the Clay Hill estate in Nevis had been previously placed in trust under Richard Lytcott Hicks Esq.'s marriage settlement of 1780 and therefore the 'slave-property' itself never passed to Gostling.
