Owner of Gloster Mount in St Thomas-in-the-East, Jamaica, from at least 1778. Died in 1794 or 1795. The estate was inherited by his eldest son Thomas.
Thomas Thomas Edgar, son of Mr and Mrs Edgar, baptised at Gloster Mount 26/05/1781 aged 8 months. Helen Ann, one of his daughters, was baptised in infancy 16/07/1778 at the estate, as was Elizabeth Selina 29/03/1784. Alexander born 03/04/1792 and baptised at Gloster Mount, 27/03/1793.

PROB 11/1262/170 - precis. Archibald Edgar of St Thomas-in-the-East. To my dear wife Elizabeth £150 sterling per annum for life and the use of the dwellinghouse and necessary servants or £60 Jamaican currency annually to rent a house during her widowhood, in lieu of dower. To Thomas Edgar, Helen Ann Edgar, E. Selina Edgar, Caroline Edgar and Alexander Edgar and such other child or children as I may have at the time of my decease £1000 sterling each at age 21 years, the interest to be applied to their maintenance and education during their minorities, with such addition as my executors shall judge necessary out of the annual produce of my estate, the remainder to be laid out in increasing my property until the first of the legacies become due, and then applied in discharging the legacies. To my brother-in-law Robert Gordon Esquire and to Mrs Gordon and each of my executors a mourning ring. All rest and residue to my son Thomas Edgar the heirs of his body lawfully begotten, and failing him to my son Alexander Edgar and heirs, in default to any other son I may have in succession. In default to my daughters share and share alike. All my estate both real and personal to William Edgar, Alexander Farquarson and Robert Logan for the uses and purposes of fulfilling this will. My wife during her widowhood to be executrix, John McQueen Esquire of Potosi, my brother William Edgar, my brother-in-law Alexander Farquharson Esquire and my friends Robert Logan and James Renny Esquires to be executors and guardians of my children. Dated at Glocester Mount, 14/05/1794. Proved at London 16/06/1795 by the oath of Elizabeth Edgar the relict. |
