Dottin Maycock (Solicitor General)

1742 - 11th Jul 1793

Biography

Solicitor-General of Barbados. Reportedly Baxters was bought from him (possibly from his executors) in 1793, the year he died.

  1. Dottin Maycock, son of John, of Barbados, matriculated St John's College Oxford 31/10/1760 aged 17; barrister-at-law, Middle Temple, 1767. Entered Middle Temple 07/10/1760, Dotton [sic] Maycock, son of John M., of the island of Barbadoes [sic] deceased. Called to the bar 27/11/1767.

  2. Dotin [sic] Maycock married Catherine O'Brien 13/10/1783 in St Michael, Barbados. At least three children were born to this couple: James Dotin (born 15/12/1786, baptised 23/01/1787 in St Michael); Catherine (baptised 24/08/1789 in Christ Church); Dotin (born 19/11/1793 and baptised after his father's death, 07/04/1794 in St Michael).

  3. John Maycock married Mercy Stoute in Christ Church, 01/07/1732. An Ancestry familytree gives this couple as the parents of Dottin Maycock, and Mercy as the daughter of James Dottin (1683-1745) and his wife Mercy nee Morris. It's not clear why Mercy's surname is not given as Dottin in the parish register.

  4. Monument on the north wall of the nave of St Michael's Cathedral to Dottin Maycock, A.M. Oxon., Barrister at Law of the Middle Temple and formerly Solicitor General of Barbados, died 11/07/1793 aged 51 years. Also Catharine, his wife, died 14/02/1849 aged 85 years.
