London merchant, partner in Turnbull Forbes (q.v.), which was bankrupt in 1802. Secondary sources show him as having fled to America. In 1822, John Forbes successfully defended a claim against him in the courts of Demerara arising from his earlier bankruptcy. This was possibly the same man as the John Forbes formerly collector of customs at Demerara who died in his 72nd year of Tavistock Place.
