Assignee of two awards for enslaved people in Berbice (in which he was given as J.S. Stutchbury), which were subsequently re-assigned. He was shown as late of Demerara in 1855 when his executors advertised for his creditors. His son Sidney Rome Stutchbury and his [Joseph Sidney Stutchbury's] widow Sarah died in 1871 and 1876 respectively in England. His brother Samuel has an entry in the Australian Dictionary of Biography as 'geologist and biologist.'
