David Laird Esq. was shown in the will of Alderman Richard Atkinson (q.v.) as holding a mortgage on his [Atkinson's] Dean's Valley Dry Works, payable for £16,500 in 1792 and 1793. He was not further identified in the will but was possibly David Laird of Glasgow, merchant and partner in Buchanan Steven (q.v.) and its successors. This man was bankrupt in 1837.

A Fiat in Bankruptcy is awarded and issued forth against Benjamin Buchanan and David Laird, of Liverpool, in the county of Lancaster, Merchants (carrying on business in partnership with George Dennistoun and Robert Baird, both of the city of NewYork, Merchants, at Liverpool aforesaid, under the firm of Buchanan, Laird, and Company, and at Glasgow, under the firm of David Laird and Co.).
