Colonel Edward Chambers was buried 30/7/1760. Presumably the same man as Major Edward Chambers whose daughter Sarah Anne died 23 and was buried 24/06/1754.
Perhaps the same as Edward Chambers, gent., whose son, by his “late wife” Rebecca, Joseph James Chambers, was born 21/9/1753 and bapt. 30/09/1753. Rebecca died 22/09/1753 and was buried the same day. Burke’s Landed Gentry, 1886, shows Rebecca, daughter of John Tharp of Hanover (born 1671), marrying Edward Chambers but the deceased of 1753 probably belongs to a later generation.
Edward Chambers senior was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 920 acres of land in Hanover. Presumably the father of Edward Chambers junior who owned 200 acres in Hanover at the same time. Chambers and Pinto were listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 500 acres of land in Hanover. This may refer to Edward Chambers, Ephraim Chambers, Jacob Chambers, John Chambers or William Chambers (all q.v.), all of whom owned land in Jamaica at this time.
Edward Chambers, senior of Hanover, planter. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1760. Slave-ownership at probate: 243 of whom 119 were listed as male and 124 as female. 87 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £18959.69 Jamaican currency of which £10041 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £188.23 currency cash, £6759.31 currency debts and £0 currency plate.
An Edward Chambers signs as first witness to the will of William Tharp, planter of Hanover, Jamaica, 1737 (proved London 08/11/1745). Other witnesses are Valentine Haughton and Ann Holmes.
