Mark Davis junior

???? - 1832

Bristol West India merchant between 1776 and some time c. 1800. His widow Mary married Sir Dudley St Leger Hill and left her fortune under Mark Davis' will primarily to Edward Protheroe jun. (q.v.).

  1. Will of Mark Davis of Turnwood otherwise Turnworth Dorset proved 25/04/1832. The will shows him still networked with the Protheroes but makes no reference to slave-property.

Kenneth Morgan, 'Bristol West India Merchants', Transactions of the Royal Historical Society Vol. 3 6th series pp., (1995) 196-7. No slave-ownership has yet been traced for him: conceivably he was the same man as Mark Davies who owned Cheltenham and Mt Charles in St Andrew in the 1810s, but no evidence has yet been found for this.

  1. PROB 11/1798/160.
