John Hunt was (with William Young, Alexander Graeme, Robert Wynne and Robert Stewart) one of the Commissioners for the sale of lands in the Ceded and Neutral Islands, and himself was the original purchaser of Lots Nos.11 and 12 (300 and 200 acres respectively) in Tobago, whtch with Lot No. 22 (of 400 acres) became the Belmont estate.
