Robert Hunter

Governor of Jamaica, February 1728. According to Feurtado, he died in March 1734.

1. Will of Robert Hunter [late of] Burton Pedwarden (sic) Lincolnshire but at present] Captain General and Commander in Chief of HM's Island of Jamaica proved 04/11/1734. The will refers to his estates in Britain, Jamaica, New York and New Jersey, and includes the formula 'my messuages, lands, tenements, hereditaments, negroes stock, cattle..', even though the probate inventory [below] showed no enslaved people in Jamaica at his death. He left the estates to his son Thomas Orby Hunter on condition he did not marry Sarah Kelly, widow of Charles Kelly of St Catherine's Jamaica.

2. Robert Hunter of St Catherine, Esquire/gov. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1733. Slave-ownership at probate: 0 of whom 0 were listed as male and 0 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £17423.16 Jamaican currency of which £0 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £5279.65 currency cash, £7872.51 currency debts and £2362.5 currency plate.
