Biography

London banker, partner until 1833 with John Vere (q.v.) in Veres, Ward & Co., which was a predecessor firm of RBS. Ward died c. 1834, and John Vere as surviving partner of the firm Vere Ward & Co. claimed for the compensation for the enslaved people on the Retrieve estate in British Guiana as assignees of mortgage of 1830.

  1. Will of John Robert Ward banker of 77 Lombard Street [made in 1829] proved 12/04/1834. The will is silent on 'slave-property' and on his previous partnership with John Vere. He left his whole estate to his wife, urging her to continue to live at their house on Shooters Hill.
