London West India merchant in the post-Emancipation era and later wharfinger and dock owner. Son of James Elmslie (q.v.) and grandson of John Elmslie senior (q.v.). His first identifiable partnership, Richardson and Elmslie West India merchants of 32 Moorgate Street, was dissolved in 1843. He left £10,000 at death in 1914.
