Rector of Ringwould in Kent, husband of Susanna Bonella Venn and father of Sir George Gipps (1791-1847), the Governor of New South Wales. The ODNB entry for Sir George Gipps makes no reference to his mother, who was a beneficiary under the will of her father Rev. John Venn of Jamaica, a slave-owner.
