Uncle of Thomas Legall Yates of Brockhurst (q.v.) and half-brother of Ambrose Nicholas Yates. Married Mary Beckford (1761-1813), daughter of Ballard Beckford (1732-1764) and died c. 1832.
Assumed to be the Thomas Legal Yates of Great Britain given in the slave registers with his agent/attorney as Thomas Legal Yates (this second Thomas Legal Yates died in Britain in 1835 but was having children in Jamaica throughout the 1820s with the exception of c. 1822 when he registered a baptism in London and when James Cockburn represented him in Jamaica).
