Robert Henvill

???? - 1781

Biography

Merchant and slave-owner, of St Kitts but active also in St Vincent. He was the son of Robert Henvill of St Kitts (d. 1752), nephew of the Bristol slave-trader Richard Henvill (d. 1756), and brother of Richard Henvill of St Kitts (d. 1772). The family was prominent in Charmouth in the late 18th century: Benedicta Durston, daughter of Richard Henvill (d. 1756), left the manor of Charmouth including the church patronage to her cousin Richard (d. 1772) and his male heirs, failing whom it was to pass to her cousin, Robert Henvill of this entry, in 1770. In the 1830s several small awards were made for St Kitts to individuals named Henville [sic].
