Biography

Shown as mortgagee with others, members of the family of John Baker of St Kitts, on Baker's estate in St Vincent from 1803 to at least 1809. LBS has not fully analysed the Baker family but she appears to have been the niece and daughter-in-law of John Baker, having married her cousin Joseph Baker of the East India Co. who died in 1791.

  1. Will of Martha Baker widow of Chichester proved 13/06/1845. The will identifies her brother as Joseph Baker (another East India Co. man, d. c 1835) and her cousin as John Richard Baker (q.v.). She left personal effects and monetary legacies to family members and an annuity of £100 p.a. to her servants James and Elizabeth Bridger.
