William Coningham of Gower Street

Biography

London merchant, apparently specialising in the Irish trade. He helped his brother Walter Coningham (q.v.) and William Alexander (q.v.) to finance the purchase of the Colonarie Vale estate on St Vincent in 1802 when he agreed to accept their bills of exchange in favour of the mortgagees of the estate (Lang, Turing, Snell and Reay). His will proved 15/02/1826 made no reference to slave-property: he left personalty of £56,000 among his family.
