Biography

London merchant, one of a group of London merchants lending £60,000 in total to Alexander Donaldson in 1803 secured on substantial 'slave-property', mostly mortgages. Probably but not certainly the James Allan [late of South Street, Finsbury Square] but now of Cheltenham Gloucestershire whose will was proved 20/02/1819.

  1. James Allan and James Brymer (q.v.) had been bankrupt in 1787: the two men had apparently recovered to a position where they could advance £10,000 between them to Alexander Donaldson in 1803.
