Biography

Mary Weatherly of Hackney was among a group of individuals purchasing, for a total of £15,000, annuities from John Mills secured on the latter's estates and enslaved people on Nevis in 1774, when for £550 she purchased an annuity of £50 p.a. on her own life (aged 39), and the lives of Sarah Hume (wife of John Hume of the Victualling Office) and Ann Hume, the 11 year old daughter of Sarah and John Hume.

  1. The will of Mary Weatherly of Hackney Middlesex [made in 1796] proved 22/08/1798 was that of this woman. She left monetary legacies of £5 or £10 to individuals and the bulk of her estate to the children of her sister Sarah Hume, including '5 pounds a year out of Mr Mills annuity from the day of my death for her own use.'
