James George Douglas

London merchant, partner with Thomas Truman (q.v.).

1. Will of James George Douglas merchant of London [made in 1759] proved 16/05/1768. He left his dwelling house on Parliament Street Westminster to his wife Mary for the remaining term of the lease, and £6000 to his daughter Elizabeth St Leger. He left monetary legacies among his family, including his sister Mary Estridge and cousin Alexander Douglas of St Kitts. His executors were his wife Mary, Ralph Willett, Thomas Truman and his nephews John St Leger Douglas and James Douglas.

No direct confirmation has been found of the partnership, but Thomas Truman and James George Douglas merchants of the City of London, described as 'my worthy friends', appear in the will of Samuel Greatheed MP of Guy's Cliffe (q.v.), while Thomas Truman, James George Douglas and Richard Neave were mortgagees of Dominic Farrill on Montserrat in 1755, Essex Record Office, Neave Family, D/DNe T61.
