Brice Webb Salmon

1745 - 1796

Biography

Brice Webb Salmon was baptised 20/10/1745 in Thornbury, Gloucestershire. His parents were John and Ann Salmon. He was apprenticed to a tanner in Monmouth in 1762. On 10/05/1769, he married Hannah Downs in Lacock, Wiltshire. The couple had several children including John, baptised 14/11/1773 in Publow, Somerset. Hannah died shortly after this and he went on to marry Sarah Catchmayd; they had two children, born 1778 and 1779.

The first record of Brice Webb Salmon's presence in Jamaica is in the Jamaica Almanac 1790: Magistrate in St Elizabeth and Lieutenant in the St Elizabeth Militia, Foot. It is likely that he would have been on the island for some time before this. He became a Captain in the militia some time before 1796. He inherited a half share of New Crawle plantation from his brother William (q.v.). He died in Cuba in 1796 after being captured en route to England.
